The foundation offers financial, logistical and emotional support to those young adults, like Mikie. His parents, family and friends have joined forces to honor his memory by forming this foundation that aids young adults and their families struggling with the disease of addiction. It was the follow up to their hit 'I Want You'. It was released in Australia on 4 November 1996 as the second single from their self-titled 1997 album. Nonetheless while facing his struggles Mikie never waivered in his dedication to provide support and encouragement to help others overcome their own struggles. On March 9, 2017, Mikie died of an accidental overdose. ' To the Moon and Back ' is a song by Australian pop duo Savage Garden. With support from his family and friends Mikie struggled to maintain sobriety and while his victories were celebrated they were inevitably overshadowed by battles lost. Sadly Mikie developed a consuming opioid addiction and as so often happens it quickly turned into a battle to save his life. Mikie was a larger than life personality who brought light to wherever he ventured and always left a little piece of his heart behind for those that he met. The "To the Moon and Back Foundation" was established to celebrate the life of a remarkable young man, Michael "Mikie" Mooney the 28 year old son of Donna and Michael and brother to Kerri.
